Theres too many enemys of metal to even count. Everyone from ignorant religious people who lump it all together like it's all bad, to far right or left politicians, to the music and entertainment industry, to trendy assholes that will not even give it a chance. Pick one.

Bob Larson's a good one.
I would also add on that list Kenneth McKenna (the personal injury attourney who brought both Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest to court for allegedly influencing some youth's to commit suicide via subliminal messages in the songs) And Tipper Gore and Susan Baker of the PMRc (Parents Media Resource Center). The group who who randomly attacked a variety of metal groups in the 80's for lyrics that where said to be sexually explicit, violent, or occult related. On that list was such violent anthems like "We're Not Going to Take It." by Twisted Sister. |

Maybe we should put all the enemies of metal into a big arena, give each of them a club, and let them battle it out for the title of #1 Enemy. Jerry Springer could be the referee.

And the fine folks of the Zeeland, MI school board, who suspended a student in 1998 for wearing a Korn T-shirt. And the Parents And Grandparents Alliance, who were running full-page newspaper ads in 2000 about trying to pressure Congress into having hearings about the whole entertainment industry- they especially had a major hard-on for Slayer. Here's their website; Link |

So true! We could possibly add MTV to that list. They may not be actual, frothing at the mouth, enemies of metal, but they're sure as hell not doing jack shit to help it either. I guess they just love that [c]rap, hip-hop, R&B, and teen pop too much. |

Soldier, just another funny thing you said, or a real statemnt? i don´t understand it, so please explain it to me, i´m bad at getting the meaning of short sentences, i´m sorry.
Well, does anyone know the PRO Christ magazine? sworn enimies of metal, and espaccially Metallica. One time, they claimed that it should not be allowed for children to buy, own or see the "Some kind of monster" DVD, even the name was too horrible to let it come to children´s innocent ears |

A am pretty damn sure that is a true statement, Andead.
Apathy in places like this is our weakest standpoint. |

andead, it was a rare serious statement, meaning the the #1 arch enemy of metal is the over abundance of metal fans won't join in the fight to defend or promote it.

MTV The largest source of music (seemingly) amongst our young population today (the future). May not be "frothing enemies" of metal (as someone put it), but they're the ones that promote the image of real heavy metal being a bunch of emo pussies with seven string guitars. Doesn't give real metal a very good image.

Quote: That was a good laugh. Seriously though, Metal does have many enemies, and it is unclear who/what is the #1 Arch Enemy. I will have to agree with what Soldier said, Apathy amongst our own ranks. As a great man once said "Your Greatest Enemy is Yourself". |

Agreed, totally APATHY.
Look at the two main opponents, the extreme right and politically correct left, neither would pose any threat if most metal heads weren't apathetic. |

They deliberately pick the artists/genres whom they think will attract the widest possible audience and basically promote them to death, telling their sheepish followers that they have to be into these "artists"/genres and buy their records to be "cool", while basically saying that artists/genres which don't quite fit into the widest possible appeal and the people into them are "uncool" in an effort to get people to conform to their ideals and buy/listen to the crap they try to pass off as "music". |

Apathy is a good one. Metal fans who are elitist assholes that strike down one sub-genre's merits just because it isn't what they like to hear. Metal is Metal. If the genre as a whole progresses, then that is the ultimate goal. Any newer metal bands that are out, while I might not like them much, I have respect for them because they are carrying the metal flag and are doing something to further the recognition that metal desperately needs.
While metal has moved forward in past years, we don't have the luxury of much mainstream coverage like rap or pop does. Tony Iommi, Dimebag Darrell, Jeff Loomis (just to name a few random metal mainstays) have more talent in their little finger than most of these so called pop or rap "bands/groups" that saturate the airwaves and get all the recognition. No one can help us but ourselves, and unity within metal is paramount. Stand up and be fucking counted, because once we all stand as one, thats when the millions of voices will be heard. |
