alot of so-called BLS "Fans" have been slagging this album saying it's boring, and Zakk has'nt written a good album since "Stronger Than Death",and his playing and song-writing is getting way too predictable. As far as I'm concerned these people have their heads way too far up their asses to realize the awesome ness of Zakk Wylde. Some dudes just can't win,If an artist puts a few twists and turns in their music to spice things up,they've sold out and strayed from their "Roots" but if an artist stays exactly the same and never changes their formula, they're boring and it all sounds the same.Zakk Wylde has yet to disappoint,In a world without Dimebag Darrell(unfortunately) Zakk is THE guitar hero now.His riffs and solo's are nothing short of amazing, and his song-writing continues it's brilliance on "Shot To Hell".I will admit this album didn't grab me as quickly as "Blessed Hellride" or "Mafia".It took me a couple listens to really dig in, and the fact that there are 4 mellow or "Ballad" songs on this album instead of the usual 1 or 2,did kinda throw me for a bit of a loop at first as I was expecting this album to be mainly heavy tunes. But the rockin' tunes on "Shot To Hell" are exactly that,Pure Black Label Rockin'! from the catchy single"Concrete Jungle" to the darker tunes like "Black Mass Reverends" "Devil's Dime" and "Blacked Out World" which scream out like Black Sabbath and Alice In Chains having a street fight."New Religion" is probably my favorite song on this album, starting off with a 2 minute piano intro, and busting into a very Tool-esque riff which makes up the verse riff of the song, very different, very catchy and totally cool."Faith is Blind" is a faster tune which kinda reminds me of "Battering Ram" from the "1919 Eternal" album, heavy and deep with frantic riffage and a killer solo to boot."Give Yourself to Me" is Very Alice In Chains inspired and in my opinion totally sounds like it could have been on AIC's "Facelift" album, very slow, dark and bluesy."Hell is High" is another catchy tune which would have sounded great with Ozzy doing back-up vocals,as he did on "Stillborn" fro BLS' "Hellride" album. On to the mellow songs..."Blood Is Thicker Than Water" is a guitar driven tune that easily could have fit on "Hangover Music Vol.6".Great lyrics and a very eerie guitar sound with some dark chords make this tune stick in your head for days after you hear it."The Last Goodbye" and "Sick of it All" are 2 Piano driven tunes that are great for cracking open a cold-one and relaxing to,Zakk has such a knack for softer songs,he has a great ear for melody and his lyrics are straight from the heart,if these 2 songs don't bring a tear to your eye, than you have no fucking soul at all!"Nothing's The Same" is another Piano driven song, but unfortunately it doesnt hold the water that "Last Goodbye" and "Sick of it All" do."Nothing's The Same" is not a horrible tune by any means, but it's not a PHENOMENAL song either,it just doenst stand out on the album like the rest of these great tracks do."Lead Me To Your Door" is the track that closes out the album, and is another piano driven song.Very catchy and almost reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd at times, all in all a great heart-wrenching tune, and all in all "Shot To Hell" is a fucking killer album. If you like Black Label Society, you'r gonna love this album(if you dont already own it).I recently read a review by Rolling Stone calling this album "Mushy pop garbage"....Rolling Stone should suck my fucking dick!!!!
