I first saw Byron Nemeth Group on October 16th, 2009 at Peabody's Downunder in Cleveland, Ohio when they opened for Sonata Arctica, and I am glad that I did.
I am now a fan of this band, now fronted by new singer and 35 year old Mentor, Ohio native Ray Richter (whom I have never seen or met, but have heard and trust me, he is worth a listen or 20.), and 40 year old lead guitarist/recording studio owner Byron Nemeth, who is as personable and charming as he is talented.
Also in this terrific progressive metal band are 40 year old bassist Brian Glodde, ageless drummer Dave Clark, and eternally youthful keyboardist Joe Hengesbaugh (who doesn’t give his age.)
This band (influenced by Rush, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, The Beatles, Queen, Joe Satriani, and Gary Moore) doesn’t stop as they play covers such as their metallized take on The Beatles’ classic “I Am The Walrus” and originals such as “Satrianimal” (which invokes images of Sega’s iconic mascot “Sonic The Hedgehog” turning over cars and generally creating chaos, which is an awesome thing.) Why this guy doesn’t work for Sega, I can’t tell you.
